Dr. Marcus "Mark" Fry is the secondary antagonist of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. His main objective is to turn the chickens into chicken nuggets.

Appearance[]

Dr. Fry has black curly hair and hazel eyes. His skin color is brown, so it can be surmised that he is Indian-British. He has an overbite alongside slightly crooked teeth. In the movie, he wears something typical of a scientist's apparel: thick glasses, a yellow vest, purple trousers, brown shoes, a purple bow tie, and a white lab coat. He has two pens and a pencil in his lab coat's breast pocket. Regarding mass, he is rotund and almost half of Mrs. Tweedy's height. During the movie he is seen always smiling.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Dr Fry Smug

Dr. Fry has earned multiple degrees from Oxford and Cambridge University: Clinical neurology, behavioral psychology, genetic engineering, and drama. Mrs. Tweedy married Dr. Fry for his "large inheritance and vast acres of land," alongside his intelligence. Dr. Fry would help her to get revenge on the chickens by inventing the chicken nugget. This would be at the expense of domesticated poultry worldwide. Dr. Fry and Mrs. Tweedy worked 12 years on their ultimate revenge called "The Dawn of the Nugget. " They soon found a sponsor, Reginald Smith, a million-dollar owner of the "Sir-Eat-Alot" family restaurant chain. The businessman was interested in dominating the fast-food world. With her husband's wealth and accomplishments, Mrs. Tweedy was able to build Fun-Land Farms, a high-tech Nugget factory in the mountains. Dr. Fry and his employees operate this farm with heavy technological security.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget[]

Dr Fry Back

Dr. Fry in the security camera room

Dr. Fry's back is first seen in the dimly lit camera room of Fun-Land Farms. He was supervising new chickens (among them Molly and Frizzle). These chickens were fitted with mind-placating collars upon entrance to his factory. His face is revealed when one of the chickens, Frizzle, does not have a collar. He fetches a collar from the wall, then dons a chicken suit (possibly blend in with the crowd of chickens). He enters the Fun-Land area through a hatch in the ground. When the hatch opens, it comically throws Molly against a wall. This, fortunately, allows Molly to be out of his sight. Dr. Fry greets the docile chicken in his chicken suit. Then, he fits Frizzle with a collar. He is unaware that Molly has slipped away to explore.

Upon returning to his lab, Fry removes part of his outfit, revealing his full character. In this scene, he meets Reginald Smith. This was a brief, awkward, yet humorous situation. Reginald was taken aback by the remaining parts of the chicken costume (notably the gloves and chicken feet). Dr. Fry then invites Reginald upstairs to watch a presentation of Fun-Land Farms. Afterward, Dr. Fry introduces his wife to Smith.

Next, Dr Fry's wife takes him and Smith to the control tower overlooking the fun park. Dr. Fry demonstrates the remote control's power by selecting chicken number 314 to be processed. When Ginger is caught, Mrs. Tweedy commands Dr. Fry to maximize the collar's full power. Although Dr. Fry says it has never been tested, Mrs. Tweedy drives the collar to level 11. Yet, she was knocked to the ground alongside her husband, the guards, and Smith.

Rocky distracts them with his dancing skills, for which Fry exclaims, "He's got some moves!". Dr. Fry is later seen getting ready for Smith's arrival when a guard rushes in, announcing that the chickens are trapped in a silo. When the chickens bust out, he talks to his wife via radio, saying that the silo has burst. Afterward, he flips the remote control to say "ALL CHICKENS" and is tripped by Rocky and Ginger.

Dr. Fry is seen for the last time near the movie's end. This is where he warns his wife about the laser ducks in the moat surrounding the farm. The building explodes and collapses, presumingly killing Dr. Fry and his wife.

Personality[]

Dr Fry 2

The scene where Dr. Fry first meets Reginald Smith shines a light on Dr. Fry's personality. He greets the businessman unprofessionally with part of his chicken costume still on. In the conversation, he continues to remove his costume while chuckling. Cucking is not an unseen behavior; Dr. Fry is optimistic as he is often seen smiling. Throughout the movie, Dr. Fry naturally retains a cheerful posture despite his misfortune. In other circumstances, he can act nervous or sheepish while picking at his hands.

Additionally, Dr. Fry is submissive. He follows his wife's orders and sustains her abuse. In the scene where Mrs. Tweedy lists his degrees, he allows his wife to squeeze his head. She then shoves him away. Regardless, he pops up from the ground and continues smiling. While being submissive, Dr. Fry is physically weak. The chickens effortlessly overcome him during their attempt to escape. As Dr. Fry frantically paces around with an egg stuck on his head, his wife proclaims, "That man is about as much use as a headless--chicken!" Although Dr. Fry is useful with his intelligence, he is physically inept.

Dr Fry Smiling

Dr. Fry's character is contrary to his wife's abrasive personality. He is much softer and more emotive. He is gentle with his equipment. For instance, upon capturing Ginger, he gently locks on the collar. To turn on the collar, he softly taps on the keys of the equipment, all while smiling. Regarding emotions, he is truly in love with Mrs. Tweedy and he gives her various nicknames such as "darling," "my beloved," or "pumpkin." During the phone call with his wife, he says, "Say those words I'm longing to hear." Unfortunately, Mrs. Tweedy does not reciprocate any love.

Unlike Mrs. Tweedy, Dr. Fry holds no apparent grudges against the escaping chickens. An example is when he unexpectedly meets Rocky and Ginger in his lab. He announces, "Oh no, my wife will not be happy with this," implying that his wife influences his actions against the chickens. Upon Ginger's capture, Mrs. Tweedy wanted to turn the collar to full power. Dr. Fry responded in shock, "Full power? But we never tested it!" Because he was unwilling to do so, it seems like he did not want to harm the chickens either. Alternatively, it could be that he wouldn't want to ruin his equipment.

Relationships[]

Mrs. Tweedy[]

Dr. Fry is in love with Melisha, and he calls her with a lot of cute nicknames. He tries to impress her, but she doesn't love him.

Reginald Smith[]

Dr. Fry makes a bad impression while greeting Reginald, since he still has part of the costume. Fry doesn't like Reginald very much because of the romantic fling he seems to have with his wife.
