DreamWorks Pictures and Aardman Animations[]

In December 1999, Aardman Animations partnered with DreamWorks Pictures, with the latter agreeing to co-finance and distribute Chicken Run, which was released in 2000. DreamWorks distributed the film outside Europe to countries such as the United States and Australia, while Pathé distributed the film within Europe to countries such as the United Kingdom. On October 1999, DreamWorks and Aardman signed a $250 million contract to produce four other films. Later on, in 2005, DreamWorks and Aardman released Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. In 2006, the following year, the companies released Flushed Away, Aardman's first computer-animated film.

After the release of Flushed Away, DreamWorks and Aardman decided to end their contract due to creative differences between the companies. The fourth film, as part of the contract, which was going to be produced by Aardman, ended up being cancelled. The film was going to be called Crood Awakening.

As DreamWorks Pictures ended their contract with Aardman Animations, StudioCanal will be one of the distributers for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
