Wallace and Gromit is a stop-motion franchise produced by Aardman Animations. It was directed by Nick Park (who also created the franchise), Steve Box and Merlin Crossingham. The franchise is about Wallace (voiced by Peter Sallis), a cheese-loving inventor and his quiet, long-suffering intelligent dog, Gromit and the adventures they go on. The franchise's genres are comedy and adventure.
History[]
The first Wallace and Gromit short film was released in 1989, titled A Grand Day Out. In the short film, Wallace and Gromit's cheese supply is gone and where to get the most delicious cheese is up to the moon, which Gromit and Wallace travel by homemade rocket. The short film was nominated for an Academy award, but lost to Creature Comforts, another stop motion short film animated by Aardman, also released in 1989.
The next two short films of Wallace and Gromit, titled The Wrong Trousers, released in 1993, in which a suspicious penguin comes to Wallace and Gromit's house, and traps Wallace in Gromit's Techno Trousers in a heist to steal the prize diamond from the museum, prompting Gromit to come to the rescue, and A Close Shave, released in 1995, in which, Wallace and Gromit, who are on the window cleaning business, get themselves involved in a sheep-rustling conspiracy, both won an Academy Award. After that, Wallace and Gromit became popular in many countries. Many advertisements were made and two children's charity events were formed, both featuring Wallace and Gromit. A series titled Wallace and Gromit's Cracking Contraptions was released in 2002, featuring ten short episodes. Shaun, a character rom A Close Shave, got a spin-off series featuring him. titled Shaun the Sheep, with the first episode released in 2007. Timmy, a character from Shaun the Sheep got a spin-off series featuring him. titled Timmy Time, with the first episode released in 2009.
Wallace and Gromit's first feature-length film, released in 2005, titled The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, in which Wallace and Gromit, who are on the pest control business, come to the rescue when their town is plagued by bunnies before the town's annual Giant Vegetable Competition, won an Academy Award. Another short film titled A Matter of Loaf and Death, released in 2008, involves Gromit and Wallace on the baking business. With an unknown assassin killing bakers, Gromit worries that Wallace may end up as a victim, when he falls in love former pin-up mascot of Bake-O-Lite Bread, Piella Bakewell .
Since then, Wallace and Gromit have appeared in many advertisements.
Relations with Chicken Run[]
- A Google Hangouts commercial features Ginger in a crossover with Wallace and Gromit. Characters from other Aardman animated shows also appear, such as the Creature Comforts and Shaun the Sheep.
- In the beginning of a Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit trailer, scenes from Chicken Run appear. In the beginning of another trailer, soundtrack from Chicken Run is heard.
- On the cover for some VHS and DVD releases of Chicken Run, it states "From the creators of Wallace and Gromit", as Wallace and Gromit won two Academy Awards before Chicken Run was released.
- The characters in Chicken Run follows the same stop motion style as the characters from Wallace and Gromit; eyes very close together and sausage-shaped mouths.
